THE SOLAR POWER PLANT WILL HAVE REVENUE OF 2.6 MILLION DOLLARS IN YEAR
The Ministry of Energy stated their goal that Mongolia will cover 30 percent by renewable energy of installed capacity by 2030. As of the current renewable energy power plants such as the Salkhit Wind Farm, Durgun and Taishir Hydro Power Stations are few but according to estimation the goal will reach fulfillment by the year 2030. For example, within the next two years there is a plan to produce electricity 100 MW of wind energy and 50MW of Solar energy.
D.Chimiddorj who is Chief of the Ministry of Energy Policy Planning Department said that will start multiple projects in this year. According to calculation it is possible to reach goal that cover 30% of installed capacity by renewable energy if Egiin gol hydro power plant operate. Also the Project Tsetsii wind farm of Umnugobi aimag province has started. In addition, the Solar power plant with 10MW capacity in Darkhan-Uul aimag province operated from 19th of February is beginning of big step of work.
It is the first time that Mongolia is utilizing the Solar Power as an energy source in the territory of Darkhan-Uul province. With the funding of 17.5 million dollars and cooperation of “Solar Power International” of Mongolia, ‘Sharp” corporation of Japan, and “Shigemitsu Shoji” company, they started their work on the power plans on the first day of 2017. On the 19th the official opening has been made. The 10MW power plant can produce a total energy of 15.2 million kilowatt energy in every year, with total annual revenue of 2.6 million dollars. The annual operational service costs will be 300 thousand dollars. Therefore within first 12 years, of Solar power plant will cover its installation costs.
The power plant has produced and delivered 918 thousand kilowatt of energy to costumer since first of January. By operating the power plant, 20 thousand Darkhan-Uul province residents has gained access to electricity. Executive Director of “Solar Power International”, B. Mandalbayar stated, “Darkhan-Uul aimag province consists of 100 thousand residents. Electric power demand of Darkhan-Uul aimag province has reached 12 MW. So, it is absolutely electricity needs of the Darkhan-Uul Province. The application is very effective. Due to the extreme climate conditions of Mongolia, especially the Darkhan Province, the technical devices had chosen specially and to withstand the extreme weather conditions. The latest, up-to-date, renewable energy technology had been chosen and installed. The power plant will operate according to the solar energy proportions. Which is meaning the Solar power plant will achieve high rates of conversion during the month of April. For the other months, it is mostly cloudy due to winds and other natural causes, causing the conversion of energy to drop. Especially during the three months of winter, when the sun is at a lower angle and limited daylight, the conversion will be minimal proportionate with the available sunlight. The power plant will reduce the greenhouse gas by preventing to burn 40 thousand tons of coal, annually.”
“The first step to start renewable energy exporting”
In 2007, Mongolia established the “Renewable energy Law”. After 10 years, the first solar power plant has implemented. The reason behind the delay for this project that was there was no investment in project such as covering installation costs within 12 years. People of Energy sector explained that project implemented on tariff which is encouraging the renewable energy.
Energy sector pointed that this is also the beginning of exporting renewable energy to foreign countries for revenue not mine coal in further. On this matter, B. Mandalbayar stated, “Mongolia should export electricity by building Solar, Wind power plants instead of exporting coal. For example, the China is importing 1GW of electricity energy in every year. The Taiwan is expecting to receive 20GW of electricity energy from solar power plant by year 2020. This is showing us that Mongolian exporting good is electricity energy from renewable energy plants. And he has pointed and understands that we are going to beginning of exporting.
